Save the Broadbeach Cultural Precinct
Why we are lobbying?
Did you know that the Council of the City of Gold Coast are proposing to demolish the:
- recently renovated Broadbeach Cultural Centre;
- the Broadbeach Library;
- the Endeavour Foundation Centre;
- the Life Education Centre;
- the Albert Waterways Children’s Centre; and
- the recreational park,
in favour of building an indoor sports and entertainment stadium with capacity to hold over 10,000 people.
Why this is a bad idea?
- There are better locations such as Bruce Bishop Carpark and the Miami Council Depot or Southport CBD.
- It’s a waste of rate payers’ monies already expended on the recent upgrades of the Broadbeach Cultural Precinct believed to be upwards of $20 million.
- Removal of essential community services such as:-
Public Library;
Broadbeach Cultural Centre;
Endeavour Foundation;
Life Education Centre; and
Albert Waterways Childcare Centre.
- Noise caused by the demolition of existing structures, and the building of new structures.
- Addition of further traffic volumes around the already congested Pacific Fair intersections and precinct.
- Removal of parking options only recently provided to the community.
- Our quiet enjoyment of the community space and local park is taken.
- Goodbye serenity, peace and quiet, hello regular noise pollution caused by music and sporting events.
We must lobby the City of Gold Coast to change their preferred location from Broadbeach Cultural Precinct to a suitable location.
